About SAIC
The Sandhills AGInnovation Center (SAIC) is a regional nonprofit food systems hub located in Ellerbe, NC. The mission of SAIC is to expand community access to fresh, healthy food in the Sandhills region of NC, produced by local and regional farmers.
SAIC provides fresh, high quality, produce direct to the consumer, primarily through our Employee Wellness Program, to make eating fruits and vegetables simpler and easier. Healthy fruits and vegetables should be accessible to everyone: our health and well-being depends on it. Enrollment in the Employee Wellness Program directly supports healthy food boxes for our neighbors in need in the region. The purchase of produce grown in North Carolina and across the United States supports American farmers while bringing the best of the best directly to the customer.

Position Summary
The Program Manager oversees the implementation and day-to-day operations of SAIC’s food box programs, including but not limited to our Workplace Wellness Program. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role not only ensures smooth program operations but also plays a key role in shaping and building new initiatives that advance SAIC’s mission. This role is responsible for program logistics, data collection and reporting, stakeholder communications, and basic financial documentation. Primarily, this position will cover the promotion and management of the Employee Wellness program in Richmond and surrounding counties, marketing the program to area hospitals, business, county government, etc., and acting as an interface between the client and the Executive Director, handling the day-to-day ordering and management of the programs.
This is an exempt, salaried position (40 hours per week). While weekly hours may vary slightly depending on the season and program needs, this role is expected to maintain a consistent schedule with advance notice provided for any changes. The annual salary for this position is $50,000/yr. There is room to grow in the future for this position.
The position is hybrid, requiring at least three days per week onsite at SAIC’s facility in Ellerbe, NC, with the option of up to two remote workdays per week depending on program cycles. Current benefits include flexible work schedule, Holidays, Paid Time Off and Sick Leave.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management & Development
Oversee implementation and coordination of all SAIC programs, including training events, food distribution, community outreach, and grower support.
Manage program logistics, including calendars, supply ordering, staff scheduling, and facility use.
Place weekly and seasonal food orders from farmers and distributors to support aggregation of food box programs.
Identify new opportunities for future programming.
Data & Reporting
Collect and organize program data, including participation, outcomes, and evaluation metrics.
Produce summaries and reports for the Executive Director, funders, and internal stakeholders.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with grant or partner requirements.
Communications & Engagement
Serve as a key contact for participants, partners, and stakeholders involved in SAIC programs.
Help develop promotional materials for programs (e.g., flyers, email updates, social posts) in coordination with SAIC communications staff or contractors.
Represent SAIC at occasional community events, trainings, or meetings.
Finance & Documentation
Submit and track program-related reimbursements, vendor invoices, and financial documentation.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of forms, receipts, and payment requests.
Organizational Collaboration
Work closely with SAIC staff and contractors in areas such as communications, finance, and facility scheduling.
Contribute program content to grant proposals, reports, and stakeholder presentations.
Support other organizational activities as needed, including annual planning or evaluation sessions.
Required Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience in nonprofit program coordination or management, preferably in agriculture, public health, or community development
– OR – a college degree in a related field, such as agriculture, business, community development, or public administration.Demonstrated success managing multiple projects or programs at once.
Strong organizational and logistics skills (scheduling, vendor coordination, supply management).
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Comfortable working with farmers, low-income families, rural stakeholders, and diverse populations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools; experience with project management tools is a plus..
Familiarity with grant-funded programs and reporting is a plus.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Availability to work onsite at SAIC’s Ellerbe facility at least three days per week, with occasional evening or weekend hours as needed.
Physical abilities and requirements: Ability to see and read written text and signage, lift up to 30 lbs at a time, sit or stand for extended periods of time, walk up and down stairs and step in and out of a van or a box truck, look at a screen for extended periods of time, walk across uneven terrain such as farmland, verbally communicate with others for an extended period of time, sometimes in loud environments, step over and around boxes and pallets, be in an environment that may contain food and agricultural allergens, and generally navigate a warehouse environment, safely and confidently.
